The Garden of Lost Souls

This year as we celebrate Hallowe’en by attending fancy dress parties, giving sweets to little ghouls playing ‘trick or treat’ on their neighbours or even watching scary movies, Lovehistory would like to look back at the history of Hallowe’en to see how the Victorians celebrated this magnificent macabre event! As we have aptly been described as “the authority on bringing history to life”, we feel it only fitting that we pay homage to our Pagan past in one of Liverpool’s most historic sites; Croxteth Hall.

We have been granted exclusive access to the Victorian Gardens in the grounds of Croxteth Hall, also one of Liverpool’s most haunted sights and where the once “well to do” occupiers of the hall would often “take turns” in the garden pondering their affairs and entertaining their guests, observing the beauty of their surroundings. Lovehistory will transform this magical space it into a wicked and wonderful ghoulish wonderland. This enchanting, or should we say, disenchanting space will become a notoriously Victorian affair, full of devilish delights and tantalising treats.

In the summer months this lush extravagant garden is bursting with life, colour and the sweet scents of exotic flowers. But in the winter months when the shrubs and the flowers no longer flourish and the bare branches are exposed, creating twisted monstrous shadows on the walls that close us in. What other ghostly creatures are lurking beneath the dark winter fog that sits low on the ground in this withered wilderness? Join us and you will see…

The tours will run for aproximately 45 mins depending on group size. Lovehisotry allocate one hour to each event in order to accomodate for larger groups.
